As part of Berries 20th Anniversary celebrations, Berries organised the Scissors Paper Stone Children's day celebrations at SAFRA Toa Payoh on 5th October 2013. All in, about 3000 participants took part in the celebrations that day.
Children who were at the afternoon segment of the celebrations will remember it as one which was unlike the typical Children's Day celebration with them actively taking part in the traditional games as they went to the Hoop-La, Hula Hoop, Hopscotch, Five Stones and Chapteh stations. For many children, this was an eye-opening experience for them due to the relative lack of opportunities to play such games in their daily lives. On top of playing the games, some of the children also learnt how to make the props for the games such as the five stones.
The games also proved to be a good platform for inter generational interaction and bonding as many children were accompanied by their parents and grandparents who not only coached them on how to play the games but on occasions also played along with them.
Apart from the traditional games, other activities such as the portrait drawing, balloon sculpturing, cultural performances and the traditional snacks also proved to be a hit with the children.
As the children completed the activities, they also got to bring home free popcorns and goodie bags.
As evening fell, Berries released 18000 rubber ducklings and frogs into one of the swimming pools in SAFRA Toa Payoh. This was meant to symbolize the good wishes from Berries to all children on Children's Day. The cute rubber ducklings and frogs lit up when in contact with the water. The lit up rubber duckling and frogs, set against the dark evening sky, made for a spectacular sight which caused many adults and children in the pool to ask to be allowed to keep one of the rubber ducklings or frogs.
We certainly had fun organizing the Children's day celebrations and hope that all participants and children enjoyed themselves as well.
